- first the 'good' news...
- *Exactly* the same happened here, it's working okay now though
- now for the 'bad'
- I'm not entirely sure what I did to fix it, but I'll go through what
- I think are the relevant things I did.
-
- Created another filedisk, fortunately I don't have space problems, I
- made it 40MB, but I reckon you would get away with a good deal less.
-
- Boot from the 'Disk tools' disk
-
- Initialized the new 'partition', you should get a message on boot up.
-
- Copied the system folder from the 'disk tools' disk to the new
- 'partition'
-
- Shut down the MAC
-
- start it from the new 'partition', using the SS prefs, it should
- start okay, it did here.
-
- insert the first install disk, and start again, remembering to change
- the target drive from the new to the original IYSWIM
-
- BTW it speeds up the process considerably if you have the space to
- copy the disks to the hard drive first. Put them all (1-7) in their
- own folder, you should also copy the installer from the first disk
- into the same folder separately. Double clicking the installer
- prompts for an install script, you then point it at the pseudo first
- disk and, ta-da, of it goes, no disk prompts.
-
-
- One other thing to watch out for, is MAC Easy Open and PC exchange, I
- played about with their prefs, specifically the SCSI thing in Easy
- Open (I think, I haven't gone near it since :) ) I then experienced
- problems re-starting the MAC, deleting the prefs (system/prefs/...)
- cleared the problem.
- It might be worth trying this first.
-
- Hope this helps, let me know if it does/doesn't.
